Very Late Birthday present for Scifigrl47
And some family pictures to go with the final update of “Stories Told With Silence.”
LOOK AT THAT ADORABLE FLUFFBALL. DJ or Furbro, hard to say which one. 8)
Book cover for Scifigrl47’s fic Four (or Five) Reasons for Kidnapping Tony Stark. I really liked the “disco ball of a rubik’s cube” line.
It won’t end well. 8)
What would Natasha do if she finds abandoned puppies?
based on scifigrl47’s headcanon The Avengers and Puppies.
NO ONE CAN RESIST PUPPIES.
Book cover for scifigrl47’s Dating the Long Way Around.
Ice wolves and Awkward Teenage Heroes. 8)
Book cover for scifigrl47’s Phil Coulson’s Casefiles of the Toasterverse. I consolidated the series into a single ebook for my own use and since not having covers on my ebooks offends me a little bit, I made one.
I’ve been on a book cover kick lately, so I decided to test out my skills on scifigrl47’s wonderful story, Hollow Your Bones Like a Bird. Not sure how well I conveyed the mood of the story, but well… I did my best. :)
Made a book cover for Sci’s Hollow Your Bones Like a Bird. :)
NOW I HAVE A COVER FOR WHEN I PUT MY OWN FIC ON MY EREADER.
(I am a sad, sad loser, but this is awesome!)
A birthday gift to the ever fabulous Scifigrl47, who loves us enough to post new fic chapters on her birthday.
Happy Birthday, from DJ and Furbro
FURBRO IS THE BEST PET.
So apparently I wont be finishing card things on time to mail them ever. So this one will be late as well. But anyway, Happy Birthday!
Perfect doofuses are perfect! I honestly don’t know if Clint is helping or causing a mess by destroying everything! 8)
The Act of Creation will be your Salvation trailer
Fic by: Sifigrl47, podfic audio: reena_jenkins
When Tony Stark was seventeen years old, he built his first AI. On that day, he ceased to be his father’s creation, and became a creating force in his own right. That one act likely saved his life, and not always in the most obvious ways.
If you have not read this fic go do it right now!!!
Oh my GOD
Okay, I promised scifigrl47 pictures after I got permission to use some quotes from her fic “Some Things Shouldn’t Be a Chore.” This is a belated Christmas present currently making its way to Hannah (thenanaroo).
There are a couple parts where I messed up because I was rushing. Also poor lighting didn’t help
looking at fabric which isn’t made for cross-stitching hurts the eyes yo. But! I’m happy with the overall result.
Aw, what an amazing job!
This is absolutely lovely. 8)
An attempt at storytelling using silhouettes, based on scifigrl47’s headcanon The Avengers and Movie Night.
Mr Fantastic the Roomba
okay so this is the second plushie i’ve made based off SciFiGrl47’s Toasterverse and the first one might’ve been a sentient toaster and this is a first-aid roomba so i might have a problem so what IT’S ALL HER FAULT
he doesn’t have “Mr Fantastic” written on him because i couldn’t figure out how to squeeze it in on his cute lil face so maybe this is a different roomba, one of Natasha’s minions maybe idk
i’ll be writing the pattern up for this at some point, drop me a line if you’re interested
Look at his fiendish little smile! Clint’s doing, and you all know it. 8)
An Illustration for a christmas card (that’s gonna be late) for Scifigirl47. DJ is the little bab (and a magicked version of Dummy >w<) JUST GO READ HER FIC GUH.
I got this in the mail, along with my Christmas cards, and I cried in the parking lot of the post office.
What I received has the following message at the bottom:
"Stark Tower is wishing you a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! With Love From Steve, Tony & DJ"
I received a Christmas card from my own fictional world, and it is one of the sweetest things that has ever happened to me.
Oh dang. Okay. I just dug up the watercolor pad with my “Ways I’ve Almost Died” pages in it, pages 6 and 7 are drawn (just not inked), and holy crap I still love page 7.
Script and a snapshot of the page’s pencils below. Scifigrl47’s words are in quotes.
The panels are losing their uniform structure as Tony gets angrier.
Panel 1: Flashback. Tony in background, on floor, empty liquor bottles in foreground. “I’ve drunk myself into alcohol poisoning”
Panel 2: Flashback. Tony in the desert in Afghanistan, a small figure in a vast sea of sand. “and felt my skin dry like parchment in the desert sun, thirst like a living thing in my throat.”
Panel 3: Flashback. Loki. “I’ve gone toe to toe with demi-gods”
Panel 4: Flashback. Obie. “and madmen”
Panel 5: Tony, tight-lipped, no longer counting on his fingers. “and monsters.”
Panel 6: Flashback. Snapshot of Iron Man pushing the turbine. “I’ve thrown myself into a turbine the size of a small apartment building”
Panel 7: Flashback. An Iron-man shaped hole in the wall with one red foot sticking out. “and smashed through walls using my head as a blunt instrument.”
(Sorry for the phone pic - these pages are about 1” too big to scan until I remove them from the pad and cut them down.)
I think this is one of the strongest page layouts I’ve ever done, and jeez I love the middle three panels and the way the line “I’ve gone toe to toe with demi-gods and madmen and monsters” gets drawn out between them. And that Loki and Obie and Tony! They’re still good! I wouldn’t even bother trying to fix them!
Ugh, I don’t know. I did a quick redraw of Tony from the first page, and the differences in the way I draw his face are really noticeable to me, but they probably aren’t as much to other people. (But then, the redraw was digital, which is my weaker suit.)
Leaning pretty hard toward finishing the comic, though…because art exercise. And page 7.
Look, someone made my words almost coherent! YAY! 8)
So I have this WIP comic that’s been hanging around waiting for me to finish it for about a year. If you’ve been following me for a while, you might remember seeing a bit of it - it’s based on Tony’s “Ways I’ve Almost Died” monologue from scifigrl47’s 4 (or 5) Reasons for Kidnapping Tony Stark.
I’m trying to decide whether to finish it.
Here’s the deal: I drew and inked the first five pages (of 12) last November, and then my graduate thesis ate my life, and long story short, I haven’t touched the thing in a year. If I finished the last seven pages now, there would be a huge jump in line art quality between pages five and six. Also, I seem to have lost my notes about the background design, so I’d have to redesign a subterranean server room with exposed rock walls based on the existing panels. At least the color would be consistent, since I haven’t done any of that yet. And I’d redo all the word balloons in Manga Studio, because oh my god, that ballooning tool.
(Worth noting: the whole thing is done on large watercolor paper in ink, and coloring was going to be in watercolor. I work fast - the first 5 pages were drawn and inked in something like 4 days - but it’s still a pretty significant time investment. I DO have the time this winter, but.)
Here are the first five pages, as-is. (Content warnings: gun violence, falling from a tall building, waterboarding)
I could finish this comic and call it an experiment…or I could just let it go.
What do you think?
I love what you did with this, and even if you never do another stroke on it, I’m honored by the fact that you did this.
It’s BEAUTIFUL work. 8)
